The background photograph for The Scoop is the beach in Essaouira, Morocco. This seaport town along the Atlantic was known as Mogador in its Portuguese days, and you can still visit the old fort. The ruined castle here is said to be the inspiration for the Jimi Hendrix song “Castles in the Sand.” Hendrix and the Rolling Stones were among the celebrity visitors here, Orson Welles filmed part of “Othello,” and it is still the site of a major music festival.
