Today’s guest blogger is Mme. Peff Modelski.
In my Feldenkrais practice, working with busy, high-functioning clients, I often find they are very tight in the shoulders and necks, have unrestful sleep and experience migraines.
Working all day and then falling into bed exhausted and waking up sore is just not the way to live.
Trying to be fit and healthy and waking up sore is just not the way to live.
Do your shoulders and the sides of your neck feel tired and sore?
Do you feel as if you are carrying to weight of the world on your shoulders?
Let’s put that pressure down and make a change for the elegant look of command – your head held easily above your neck, shoulders down, eyes alight.
Sit in a chair or on a bench and rest your hands on your legs palms down.
Very slowly RAISE one shoulder as far as it will go without hurting more and then slowly SLIDE IT DOWN to neutral.
The feeling of sliding takes a little time, and no speed, to really sense clearly.
Now time the RAISING of the shoulder with your whole inhale and the LOWERING with your whole exhale.
Then raise the other shoulder very slowly and then slide it back down too.
The shoulder blades actually do slide along the ribs – they are designed that way.
This time TURN one elbow FORWARD and feel the shoulder slide away for the spine toward the side and then turn your elbow BACK to where it was resting, and feel the shoulder slide back into neutral.
Now RAISE one arm as if you’re going to hold a hair dryer over your head and feel the shoulder blades slide downward and then put your arm DOWN and feel the shoulder blade slide up to neutral.
Turn your head slowly left and right .
Work with your other arm.
The most positive effects are achieved by paying attention to the quality of the movement.
To relax all the tension you carry in your shoulders try each movement with a long slow breath.
Now stand up, smile, and have a great day.
